Year 5 -The gateway into BTC Secondary

At Blackheath & Thornburgh College, Year 5 is seen as a critical year to prepare students for stepping up into Secondary.

The Year 5 and 6 students have access to multiple differentiated learning opportunities to help them grow in curiosity to help find their niche.

Entry in Year 5 will ensure that students get a solid academic foundation, grounded in high-quality instructional teaching, backed up by specialist teaching staff, including Health and Physical Education, Drama, Music, Food, and Nutrition, and Visual and Manual Arts.

This makes for a well-rounded student who will become a capable and confident learner.

Social Development

Year 5 students are beginning to gain confidence to explore life more independently.

Our Social and Emotional learning program called Second Step, intentionally supports how they navigate more complex relationships as they start to solidify friendships in school. Friendships that they will grow and mature as they move into Secondary.

Leadership

During Years 5 and 6 there are increasing opportunities for students to express their emerging leadership skills through contributions to different aspects of College life.

The focus for developing leaders is the ability to consistently influence others for good.

Values and Traditions

Walking through our beautiful campus, you will notice the Go It Blue values alive in all of the day-to-day interactions.

The values are underpinned by the sound traditions that make Blackheath and Thornburgh College stand out from the rest. Our students are respectful, well-mannered, and well-spoken.

Having the continuity from Prep to Year 12, these values and traditions are quickly emulated by the year 5 students as they observe and model seniors.
