For over 100 years Blackheath & Thornburgh College has been providing education and opportunities for students from across regional and remote areas of QLD.
For more than a century, Blackheath & Thornburgh College has proudly provided outstanding educational opportunities for students and families across regional and remote Queensland. Built on strong traditions and a deep sense of community, the College continues to evolve while remaining committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive education that prepares young people for the future.
At the heart of our College is a commitment to ensuring every student is known, valued and supported to achieve success in their own unique way. Through a diverse curriculum and broad range of co-curricular opportunities, students are encouraged to explore their passions, challenge themselves and embrace the College motto, “Go It Blue!”. More than simply a saying, “Go It Blue!” reflects the spirit, resilience and values that underpin our community and inspire students to contribute positively both within and beyond the College gates.
From Kindy through to Year 12, students are provided with opportunities to grow academically, culturally, socially and personally. Alongside traditional curriculum areas, students engage in interest-based electives, House challenges, community service initiatives, interschool sporting competitions, academic pursuits and cultural experiences that foster confidence, leadership and connection.
As a proudly regional boarding school, we understand the significant commitment many families make when choosing a boarding education. Our dedicated boarding team works closely with families to ensure students feel supported, connected and cared for throughout their journey. With a focus on wellbeing, communication and community, our boarding environment provides comfortable living spaces, quality nutrition and a wide range of activities designed to keep students active, engaged and thriving. Boarding students are also encouraged to contribute to the wider Charters Towers community through volunteering and service opportunities that build character, responsibility and connection.
Our Junior School offers a nurturing and supportive environment where strong foundations for lifelong learning are established. Our dedicated team of educators works closely with families and communities to provide a wide range of curriculum-aligned opportunities for every student. Specialist programs across K–6 in HPE, Music and Visual Art, alongside opportunities in Drama and co-curricular activities, allow students to discover and develop their talents from an early age. As students progress through the upper primary years, transition experiences in areas such as Manual Arts and Home Economics help prepare them confidently for secondary schooling.
Across every aspect of College life, our staff are passionate about creating innovative and engaging learning experiences that encourage students to explore, evolve and expand their potential. We are proud of the diverse and vibrant community we continue to build and remain committed to developing young people who are accountable, resilient, compassionate and ready to contribute positively in an ever-changing world.
