Blackheath & Thornburgh College invites applications for our 2027 Scholarship Program.

Scholarships are on offer for students entering Year 7 in 2027.

To be considered for a Scholarship at the College in 2027, students must submit an online Scholarship application. This involves registering to attend the College for one of our on-site testing dates in 2026, in addition to submitting required documents under the Scholarship category criteria, & submitting an enrolment application if not currently enrolled at the College. 

Applications open 1 March 2026. Deadlines for submission of applicants are listed in the 2027 Scholarship Program Applicant Guidelines.

Who can apply?

  • New and current students of Blackheath & Thornburgh College may apply.
  • Applicants must be entering Year 7 in 2027.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
  • Students who demonstrate sound character traits and a potential to lead.
  • Students with a willingness to participate in a variety of educational and school-related activities.
  • Students who can provide evidence of active participation and achievement in co-curricular programs where necessary, eg. sport, visual arts, drama, music, debating or community service.

Students can apply for multiple Scholarship categories within a single application. However, applicants must ensure that their supporting documentation meets the requirements for all selected categories. Additionally, students should clearly indicate which Scholarship categories they are applying for in their Student Personal Statement (see more information below).

Scholarship Application Checklist

Please use this as a checklist of requirements for your application:

Step 1

Complete Scholarship Registration

  1. Select a Scholarship test date and complete the online scholarship application, including payment of the $99 scholarship application fee.
  2. Upload a student personal statement (minimum 300-words) to the Edutest Portal. In this statement, students must:
    • introduce themselves,
    • specify which Scholarship/s they are applying for, outline their personal qualities,
    • make mention of any special awards received, contributions to school/family/social communities, participation and/or selection in relevant programs that highlight student expertise or personal values, and,
    • include how they will contribute to the College community.

All work produced and provided must belong to the student.
Supporting documentation where applicable, for example, certificates of achievement, awards, references from coaches etc. may also be uploaded to the Edutest Portal.

Step 2

This step is for new enrolments only.

Upon completion of Scholarship registration, new students must also complete an online Enrolment Application prior to Scholarship Testing. When completing this online form, you will need the following documentation:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunisation History Statement
  • 3 most recent school report cards 
  • NAPLAN report

You will not need to pay the $50 enrolment application fee (please contact the Registrar to obtain a discount code in order to waive this fee).

Note that submitting an Enrolment Application with the College is not a guarantee of an offer of enrolment at the College. The College will liaise with all families to let them know of outcomes of both scholarship offers as well as offers of enrolment at the College.

Step 3

Sit the Scholarship test on your selected testing date at the College.

Testing Dates for 2027 Scholarships

Registrations for testing and all required supporting documents must be completed 7 days prior to the advertised Scholarship testing date. Testing will be held onsite at Blackheath & Thornburgh College on the following dates.

Note: If you are unable to attend testing onsite, there may be an opportunity for families to arrange testing at alternative locations. This will be approved at the discretion of the College, and families will need to cover any associated costs and facilitate appropriate testing conditions. Please contact the College Registrar to discuss further.

Scholarship Categories

Academic Scholarships cover a percentage of tuition fees applicable to enrolment. Students will demonstrate a commitment to achieving academic excellence, evidenced through school references and awards, participation and/or selection in programs or academic extension events and activities, as well as any other demonstrable evidence relating to high levels of achievement and contribution.

Our College has a rich sporting history and continues to offer outstanding sporting opportunities for students. Our particular strengths are, but not limited to, Rugby League, Netball, Cricket, Tennis, Softball and Interschool competitions which include Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. Sporting Scholarships cover a percentage of tuition fees applicable to enrolment. Students will demonstrate, through references and results, strong sportsmanship and athletic ability at a local or regional representative level or above.

Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships cover a percentage of tuition fees applicable to enrolment. Recipients of Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships are typically students who will add to the life of the school in areas of arts and culture. Characteristically, this student will be academically capable and have demonstrated strengths in a number of areas, which may include but are not limited to drama, music, visual arts, dance and language.

Local Champions Scholarships cover a percentage of tuition fees applicable to enrolment. The Local Champions Scholarships are available for outstanding young people in rural and remote Queensland who have displayed leadership skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Leadership roles (eg. school or house captain, student council representative)
  • Community group leaders (eg. Scouts, Girl Guides, sporting clubs)
  • Recognised volunteering efforts or coordination of charitable initiatives

Boarding bursaries cover a percentage of boarding costs. Boarding bursaries offer the opportunity for students who are passionate about education to overcome the barriers of distance and access.
